Apple folds its EU fees into one set of terms

On 1 October the App Store's European terms collapse into one agreement. The Core Technology Fee — charged per install once an app reached extraordinary scale — is replaced by the Core Technology Commission, a flat 5% on digital sales in apps distributed outside the App Store. The Initial Acquisition Fee and the Store Services Fee are removed outright.

Commission inside the App Store lands at 26% on standard sales and 15% for the Small Business Program, the Mini Apps, Video and other partner programmes, and for auto-renewable subscriptions after the first year. Taking payment through an alternative processor inside the app costs 20%, or 10% under those same programmes.

Two conditions come with it: a developer has to keep the payment option they choose for twelve months, and alternative payment methods carry expanded child-safety obligations. For a studio with in-app purchases and a young audience, that second clause is the one to read twice.
